Murty Vepuri is a renowned figure in the pharmaceutical industry, celebrated for his extensive contributions over a fifty-year career and his profound dedication to philanthropy. Born in a modest village setting, he was one of ten children in a family immersed in farming and religious music. Despite facing educational and societal challenges from an early age, his ambition and curiosity shone through. He pursued his education in local government schools while actively participating in his father's religious programs. His academic achievements led him to Loyola College and then to Andhra University, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy. He continued to advance his knowledge, obtaining a Master’s degree in Biochemical Engineering and Pharmaceutical Technology, thereby laying a solid foundation for his future career in the pharmaceutical sector. He began his professional journey at Hoechst in Mumbai, gaining crucial experience through a rotational internship that spanned manufacturing and laboratory roles. After completing his Master’s, he took a significant position at Bharat Salt and Chemicals in Orissa. In pursuit of more significant opportunities, he migrated to the United States in 1977, armed with nothing but resilience and determination. He started in modest roles, such as cleaning tablet machines, and quickly ascended the ranks in prominent pharmaceutical companies like PurePack and Barr Labs. In 1978, he joined ICN Pharmaceuticals, and in 1984, he demonstrated his entrepreneurial spirit by founding Able Labs. Since 2003, he has served as an advisor to KVK Tech, helping to lead the company in the development and manufacture of high-quality, FDA-approved medications. His efforts at KVK Tech underscore his commitment to making essential pharmaceuticals accessible and affordable.
